Aging Out of Foster Care: The Need for a Supported Start
Adulthood doesn’t arrive with all the answers. Learning to pay rent, find work, continue school, and manage everyday responsibilities takes time—and often, someone to call when things get difficult.
For young adults aging out of foster care, that support cannot be taken for granted. According to CAFO’s summary of federal data, approximately 15,000 young people exited foster care through emancipation in fiscal year 2025. Behind that number are individuals with their own strengths, dreams, and hopes for what comes next. cafo
More Than a Place to Stay
Forever Free Ministry is working to establish Christ-centered transitional living homes for young adults ages 18–24 who have aged out of foster care. Our vision includes welcoming, single-gender homes for young men and young women—a place to find stability while preparing for independent life.
We envision more than a roof overhead. We envision shared meals, caring relationships, practical guidance, and encouragement through both progress and setbacks.
Everyday experiences—learning to budget, preparing meals, applying for work, or planning for school—can become opportunities to build confidence. Our goal is to create an environment where young adults feel supported as they take ownership of their futures.
Building the Foundation Together
Forever Free Ministry is still developing this vision. Establishing the homes will require thoughtful planning, resources, prepared people, and strong community partnerships.
Donors, churches, volunteers, and prospective agency partners can help build that foundation. Whether through financial support, professional expertise, or conversations about local needs, each contribution can help move the vision forward.
We believe leaving foster care should be the beginning of a new chapter—not the end of meaningful support.
Because no one should have to build a future alone.
